…Aliens' Point of View?. "Very few Star Trek fans believe that the first seasons of Deep Space Nine—focusing on the unstable relationship between the Bajoran government, its spiritual leaders, and the only-sort-of welcome Federation—are its strongest. But it's gotten me thinking lately that it could form the basis of a fascinating Trek show in its own right. There comes a point in any Star Trek fan's re-watch of Deep Space Nine where they think to themselves, "Man, I could just skip all this Bajoran drama and get straight to the Dominion stuff." It's inevitable—the early seasons aren't bad, really, they just have to compete with some of the best longform storytelling in Trek's entire history. I've been rewatching DS9 myself recently—thanks to the bug biting me again after Star Trek Online's wonderful anniversary expansion—and am still in those early seasons, full of Bajoran turmoil and enough Vedeks you can shake one of those silly three-pronged pope hats at…." LOL. Aren't most of the new series about that already? Anyway, if it's going to be anything like "ethnic studies" the way they are taught in Western countries today, then it should help nicely with the split up and take down of the damned federation. :) Just make sure you sell the idea properly, explaining how it will make the federation a much happier place. Because nothing makes a composite body happier than constantly picking at scabs and undoing stitches and new growth. That way they can all be happy all the time, just like Ro Laren who, in turn, was able to cheer up everyone she came in contact with, rehashing past mistakes over and over again. Ha! What fun! Dan PS. On the other hand, Worf's mate, K'Ehleyr, was so much better adjusted with who and what she was. She respected her heritage but didn't let it become some obstacle, to get in the way of everything else in her life and her future. She could focus on the big picture, without Ro's never ending negative baggage issues.

If aliens are picking up our news feeds, TV shows, movies, etc., [and they probably are] they know by now we are a very warlike race bent on self destruction and should be avoided. I remember that TNG episode, always thought she was kind'a hot ! I mean for a half-breed alien and all ! (And please any half-breed ET/NTI aliens on TMP or elsewhere, don't take offense. I've always liked Klingons, Romulans, Andorians, Orions, etc.) |
