I am not sure how your "improvement" of taking away the unit leaders works, but IMO, it's core to TMWWBK game mechanic. You mention that failing to make the command roll meant that the unit could do nothing, but you failed to mention the default action that each unit has, usually Fire for the regular infantry, Move and Attack for the cavalry and, usually, Move and Attack for the natives. With such a well armed Imperial force, you could have formed square, or at least formed Close Order and there is no way that the natives could have gotten into contact. I agree that TMWWBKs is not ideal for games as large as the one you played, but I have run games with eight players, each commanding three units and it's played quite well. Great looking troops and terrain, by the way. |
