This is a very niche question for those of us who like the French First Empire, but it seems to me that those game with Napoleonic French armies do like those hussars (the eyes and ears of the army – and also the egos). While they do have a lot of appeal, the French had at their peak 13 regiments of hussars – and 31 regiments of chasseurs-a-cheval, who did a ton of hard, unrecognized work What is the ratio of hussars to chasseurs in your French army? Mine is 2:3 a) 1:1 b) More hussars than chasseurs c) More chasseurs than hussars d) What's a chasseur? e) This is silly f) No opinion |

D. If the rules don't distinguish, go for the flash. OK, B is someone insists on counting the Chasseurs Hanoverienne. (PS?) |

I'm purposely banning hussars from my current Napoleoni project. Given I'm doing Davout's third corps 1805-1807 it's easy as he didn't have hussars. Mostly chassuers but also dragoons(the other workhorse of the French cavalry) Sadly finding good 1805 chassuers is very difficult. |

At this point, I think I have all of the figures (though not all painted yet) for the full French OB at Waterloo. So, whatever proportion it was in that French army. |

C It gets confusing with all the variation in Hussar uniforms, especially the regiment with red jackets. I associate the color red with the British. What was the difference between hussars and chasseurs besides the uniform? Both light cavalry, did they have different battlefield roles? |

Exactly the same. Hussars were just expensive full of themselves chasseurs. |
