It has come to my notice that several of my books have been illegally copied and turned into 'free' PDF downloads.

I thought that this was a one-off … but have now discovered that several of my books have been ripped off. Copies of the eBook versions of my books have been bought and then 'converted' into PDFs without my permission.

I am trying to get these PDFs taken offline, but I suspect that this will be almost impossible.

I wonder if the people who download these "free" PDFs get a little "extra" loaded on their machines at the same time? I'm sure these sites have some ulterior motive.

Almost certainly …

Posting the link to it on your blog maybe wasn't the best idea.

Vintage Wargaming, the link is to this peron's page of 'free' downloads, not to the download itself. Doing the latter would certainly be dangerous. However, on your suggestion, I will remove the link.

You have my sympathy- was it one of the Russian sites?

My books show up there all the time but when I ask to have them removed as I own the copyright, they generally comply.

BigRedBat,

As far as I can find out, the site hosting the download page that I found is in Belgium … but who know's where it actually is.

Check with GAMA (even if you're not a member) they can help you with the process of sending a take-down notice.
