Phil Barker did more than anybody to popularize Ancients wargaming.
Allowing Romans to fight Vikings or Swiss doubled the likelihood of such armies being manufactured.
If the Khitan Liao could only fight its contemporaries, what is the likelihood of such figures being produced?
Likewise Burmese, Mycenaean, Nikephorean Byzantine, Mauryan Indian…. This is not to say that all the editions, revisions, Amendment Sheets ("What's the postmark on your sheet? Mine says ‘must' while yours says ‘cannot'….) didn't drive me nuts. I basically had to learn a new game 3 times a year. That of course puts me one up on the infamous generals who didn't survive 1.0 |
