… the Shadows' Style to the Small Screen

"If you're a fan of the delightfully quirky New Zealand horror-comedy What We Do in the Shadows from writers/directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, whom you may have heard of, we have some good news for you: Wellington Paranormal, a new TV series in that same vein, is heading to the small screen this summer. Even more good news: The first trailer for the spin-off has arrived!

Now the bad news is that it's likely only going to air in New Zealand, specifically on TVNZ, in part because it was made with the support of NZ On Air. There's every chance in the world it'll find international distribution on some sort of platform or another as Kiwi culture continues to make waves across the globe. Case in point, this isn't the only WWDitS series audiences will get to enjoy, though it does feature the return of police officers played by Karen O'Leary and Mike Minogue, alongside Clement and Waititi's vampiric personas….."

I wouldn't worry about the local screening only – the well-received dystopian future gem THIS IS NOT MY LIFE was available through *ahem* many platforms internationally, and also funded by NZ On Air. Besides, it's libale to go on DVD for making "real money" as well :D

And as a neighbor of and visitor to Wellington city, I can state with no fear of blasphemous contradiction that the city does indeed feel as if eldritch horrors, unspeakable rituals and miscegenous creatures lurk about the rotting concrete and slouching wooden domiciles of the aged town, from the glitteringly beautiful boutiques built upon the moldering bones of a beached merchantman ( oldbank.co.nz/history and link ) to the bohemian disorder and chaotic geometry of the Cuba Street/Te Aro suburb, the town is redolent with ancient knowledge and despicable actions in the night. . .

. . . I seem to have gotten carried away :D Anyway, it was also the scene of that other horror comedy, THE FRIGHTENERS.

I completely loved the movie. If the TV show is up to the film's standards it would be a must see.
