The 1706 Great Northern War campaign has generated the first battle, to be resolved on Thursday at Historicon. You can check out the campaign overview and the campaign maps at the Carnage and Glory website. Link below.

On Game Day 2 Swedish forces pushed east from Raciaz (227167) and the lead division under the command of Major General Lindenmeuth engaged a brigade of Russian cavalry commanded by Generalmajor Roshnev northwest of Plonsk (228165). A minor combat, resolved by the Carnage and Glory campaign system, resulted in minor casualties to both sides and the retreat of the Russian brigade to Plonsk (229165). A light rain fell intermittently during Game Day 2 and continues into Game Day 3.

Early on Game Day 3 Swedish forces advanced towards Plonsk, defended by Generalleutnant Rentsel's Russian division. Plonsk, astride the Plonka River is a major Russian supply base and a key roadway center. The loss of Plonsk will cut off a principle route for the Russian siege train as it moves towards Warsaw.

The Swedish forces arrived at Plonsk at noon and will spend the next two hours deploying for battle. The Battle of Plonsk will begin at 2:00pm on Game Day 3. Rentsel will be defending the Plonka River and the two bridges, which provide the only crossings of the river at Plonsk. A light rain continues to fall.

If you're going to Historicon you can sign up to play in one of the five battles we expect to generate as the campaign continued over the weekend. Check the PEL for times. All games will be in the Marietta Room.

Below are some pictures from a previous GNW game we ran at an HMGS East convention.

For those who missed it, the GNW campaign at Historicon was a great event.

Pictures of the games can be found at the Historicon AARs listed under the "Conventions and Wargame Shows" message board.

Played in the 1st game on Thursday as Russian Cavalry commander, we stopped the Swedish hordes and were able to withdraw unmolested. 800 Swedish casualties to 300 Russian.

Played in the Saturday morning game that was Game 5 I believe. This time I was on the Swedish side and we were attacking a superior number of Russians and Saxons that were hiding in a fortified church on our left, a redoubt in the centre and a wood & hamlet on our right.
Held off the Russians on our left, gave the redoubt and supporting cavalry a hammering and had a cavalry breakthrough against the Russian infantry in the wood on our right.
Swedes lost just over 900 casualties to the 800 odd Russian/Saxon casualties.
Great set of games from David Bonk.
