Imagine that your favorite wargames show or convention has been offered promotional deals by all of the major brands of soft drink, with drinks to be free to all attendees.

Which soft drink should be accepted as the Official Drink of the Con?

Ale…much healthier than soft drinks. Preferably an Imperial IPA…if it really must be soft, iced coffee or tea. Unsweetened. I will drink a ginger beer or tonic water upon occasion. Bitter lemon too. I might have me flask nearby.

Cerdic Supporting Member of TMP23 Jun 2018 1:40 p.m. PST

I thought ale was a soft drink? It's spirits that are 'hard'….

I don't know if it's a Brexit thing, but Fentimans have been showing up in the discount stores here, $2 USD to $3 USD for a largish bottle, some interesting flavors (Dandelion? Victorian Lemonade?).

Dynaman878923 Jun 2018 3:18 p.m. PST

Diet Dr. Pepper or nothing. Diet Dr. Pibb if push came to shove.

Coca-Cola made with cane sugar. Import it from Mexico.

Second choice is Goose Island Root Beer. Great stuff.

Third, Simply Lemonade..

Heck, stock all three. I can alternate.

With regards to soft drinks, I have no opinion. With regard to beer, be advised that PA has a two-tier system of distribution that adds a level of cost to the final price to the consumer. It is cheaper to buy beer made in PA in VA than it is to buy it in PA.
So if you live in VA and go to Historicon, buy your PA beer in VA and take it with you to PA.

Tumbleweed Supporting Member of TMP23 Jun 2018 10:38 p.m. PST

I am sorry to digress. I would chose Coca Cola Zero.

How about an official soap and an official deodorant instead of an official soft drink? This way everyone can experience the benefits, not just those who do the quaffing.

Ice water is already provided at the HMGS conventions. Does that make H2O official?
