I have upgraded my previous Dr. Who Risk! boardgame upgrade with …

15mm Sontarans!

They're not a perfect surrogate, but what do you think … Sontar Ha! or Sontar Meh … ?

Sontar… Wha?

I say Sontar-They'll-do-nicely

They make fine Sontarans. The armor has most of the right cues, and all big guns automatically look appropriate in Sontaran hands. :-)

My only suggestion would be to add more color to the game by painting them in the blue/silver-blue scheme of the "new" Sontarans.

I recognize the TARDIS, Daleks, UNIT troops, and Sontarans in the picture. Who are the silver guys? Cybermen?

PS: I didn't know about the ZOD miniatures. There are a lot of generic little sci-fi plastic goodies in there.

Who-Hah!

The ZOD miniatures are slightly-modified recasts, without permission, of an old pack of GZG infantry. More info here: link

Anyhoo, I reckon the old-sculpt GZG Kra'Vak aren't far off Sontarans, with the right paint job: link

erraticassassin I perused your flickr account. Nice. In your Huntarr vs Skullhunter who made the Skullhunter?

That does suck. I'll throw 'em out and find some new options. I couldn't care less about the "rationalization". If you've seen my project page, you would know that I'm not particularly interested in what the manufacturer intended. You sell it. I but it. It's mine.

But, if they are recasts, that is Bleeped text. Damn shame since GZG doesn't sell the old ones any more and these are the best fit I have found after a lot of looking. But then again, just because they made something I like doesn't mea they owe me anything, either. Otherwise I might as well join the "this manufacturer makes this cool thing I want but charges too much for it" crowd. Their business. Their decision.

The Skullhunters are available from QRF/Total System Scenic, here: link

They're not the greatest sculpts, to be honest, but they're cheap and have a bit of character, which is always a good combination. The Huntarr is from Khurasan, of course.

The old-sculpt FSE figures are still available, here: link

Well, those are not the same sculpts. Some of them have similar poses (then again, all scifi infantry have some similar poses), but there are poses and bits in the GZG that were not in the set I got and poses in the set I got that are not in the GZG set. While the ones I got are not perfect Sontarans, but they are better stylistically than the GZG ones (which are not supposed to be Sontarans).
