What are the cloths hanging around some of the necks of the Afghan infantry. I'm thinking prayer rugs? Also what are some colors they could be painted?

Jim,

Not sure if you're aware, but I have a page on my blog with an article on the Afghan regular army of the 19th Century, written and illustrated by Ian Heath. Much of it is devoted to uniform info, and there are color illustrations of 12 different Afghan regulars. Here's a LINK:

PS RE: the cloths hanging around some of the Perry Afghan regular's necks, I'm not 100% certain, but I believe they are traditional Pathan men's scarves, carried over from civilian dress. Here's a LINK to a Quora page about Afghan men's scarves…

Ethan,
Thanks for the scarf info. I have the WI article with the color plates. I also have a Savage and Soldier with some info on the regulars.
