If you were a kid in the 1960s who loved history and toy soldiers, you probably had a WOW figure!

Does anyone make 28mm Africans (not North African, below the Sahara) with arquebuses? I need them for early Portuguese colonial allies.

Thanks. Those are all nice figures but they are armed with long, sometimes Buccaneer, flintlock muskets while arquebus's are really quite short matchlocks. Converting with ECW arms sound intrigueing but what to do with the sleeves? :)

This Eureka range has some potential figures. Set more in Brazil, I could seen them in Africa.

"What to do with the sleeves"

Good point :)

If you want them with bare torsos you could only use the hands attached to the weapon and the try to re-position the original arms to fit, alternatively use some greenstuff. An alternative to zulus might be Perry Sudan plastics.

Another route would be to use some of the miniatures suggested. The Foundry ones would be especially suitable, and cut away the weapon including the holding, left hand but keep the weapon stock including the right hand. Replace the holding hand with an open hand (plenty in most plastic sets and buy arquebusiers(weapon only) from TAG.

I have done similar conversions with more modern weapons and it works quite well
