Does anyone have an example where it explains how to use the Deck Log? I can't find any instructions in the rules.

Actually an example game would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
JohnG

Hi John

Which bit of the deck log?

You note the phase you fire a broadside in the appropriate box and mark loading phases so you know when you can fire again (extending this time if you manoeuvre much).

You note the actual number of MFs you are travelling in each phase in the boxes in the middle.

Record the turn you start repairs (and what type of repair) in that column and when extended tasks are started in the other column.

It may all be a bit cryptic, especially in the first few games, so you may need a separate sheet of paper to make more verbose notes against a turn.

As for the crew allocations, page 1-23 has a bit of a discussion of using this. Don't forget to include the marines in you initial manpower calculation.

Cheers
David

John G.

You can see my 4th Solo "Post Captain" Sea Battle – AAR at the below link:
TMP link
It was a short battle because when both French 74's received a 3rd of their Hull Hits, that required a Command Check, and both French captains immediately Struck their colors!

Here are my charts that I used in my last little sea battle, "4th Solo."

My symbology is:

Larboard and Starboard boxes
Broadside fired = blacken the box
Receive a broadside = X the box
Reload with round shot = R in the box
Reload with chain shot = C in the box
Reload with grape shot = G in the box
Reload with double shot = D in the box

Repairs
Rigging = R
Hull = H
Guns = G
Cutting away a fallen mast = Cutting
Repair successful = circle the repair
Repair unsuccessful = X the repair

MFs
MFs = Numbers in boxes
Completed MF = / the boxes

Extended Task
I use these boxes to record hits (EDRs) & place a R, W, or B for the appropriate Phase.
I also use these box for extended tasks and other note worthy events such as "In Irons."

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I hope these have helped a little. If you have questions or comments, please post.

God bless,
John T.
