I've started work on my Ogre plastic infantry. Since there are no specialist infantry on the sprues that would really distinguish stands of Heavy Infantry, Marines, or Combat Engineers, I've begun searching for suitable recruits.

I've poked through my collection of figures on hand and found a few candidates that will fit in nicely.

For Heavy Infantry, I'll use 1 Epic Eldar Wraithguard on a stand with 2 regular SJG infantry. The Wraithguard figures are a little taller, but look like a reasonable power suit backing up the squad.

For Marines, I'll use 3 Epic Terminators on a stand. A little shorter than SJG, but bulkier and overall a good fit. Besides, having a height limit on the Marines seems reasonable to fit them and their gear on drop subs. ^,^

For Combat Engineers, I don't have anything on hand that's volunteering for duty. I see that Iron Wind has a Fire Fighter figure in their BattleTech Infantry that looks like a possibility. Any one have these to compare to the SJG infantry, or can give me a toe to top of helmet measurement?

Anyone have other suggestions for any of the above? I'll be kitting out forces for 8 players (probably more when they get around to the Pan-Euro sculpts) so I could use different figure in different forces.

IIRC, OGRE Infantry is closer to 10mm ? Than 6 …

But yes the Epic Waithguard are closer to 10mm.

And the SM Terminators are much thicker than the standard SMs …

But I always thought the OGRE Infantry would be too big for 6mm Humans though.

Thanks to the recent Kickstarters, I am wealthy in Ogre plastics! The infantry is about 9mm to top of helmet.

The old plastic Wraithguard is about 10mm to top of helmet, plus the stovepipe above that; fits nicely as heavy support with the Ogre infantry.

The old plastic Termies are about 8mm, but chunky enough to look good on their own stands in company with the others.

The old Ral Partha basic BattleTech infantry is a smidge shorter than then new SJG plastics, so I suspect the Iron WInd Fire Fighters will work.

Anyone else make "Heroic" 6mm sci-fi in the 9mm-ish range?
^,^

Also, anyone make packages of nice infantry support weapons that I could just plunk on a stand with the Ogre infantry?

I decided to play it safe. Just put in an order with Iron Wind for some Fire Fighters, and about 18 different types of Power Armour.

They'll all be useful for something in some game some time!

Testing basing system and like it. Drilled a hole and glued a 1mm x 2mm rare earth magnet into the base of each figure so they stick to a 3/4" fender washer. From left to right: GW Eldar Wraithguard, SJG Ogre Infantry, GW Terminator:

If you need more of those washers let me know. I've got a big ol' bag of them.

Thanks for the offer Epic Gamer, but I've got a thousand count box of them here now after doing this test run!

Good comp pic … Thanks !

My Iron Wind order came in today. The figures will all be useful for some game some day, but just not for Ogre today. (Probably for Battledroids Alpha Strike some time in the future when I get more of my 3" Doyousha/Nitto Dougram plastic mechs built!)

Alackaday, there has been massive scale creep since the old Ral Partha miniatures. The Fire Fighter miniature (11mm to top of helmet) stands a full head taller than the plastic Ogre Infantry. The two smallest armored figures, the Nighthawk PAL and the Tornado PAL (12mm) stand a full head taller than the GW Eldar Wraithguard. Other Iron Wind Batle Armour figures get taller and taller from there.

I do have a fair amount of the old Partha BT Infantry, the ones on the wooden base with a GW Terminator up beside them for size comparison. I'll use these for my Combat Engineers.

Front bases left to right: Ogre, RP (with a Terminator propped up), Wraithguard.
Rear left to right: Terminator, Fire Fighter, Nighthawk, Tornado.
