Looks like fun. Should have good ideas for games. |

So the aliens decided to wait until we had nuclear weapons, aircraft, space craft, and a planetary society before invading to make things fair? Why not invade two centuries ago and just face guys with muskets? Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Mike If they are truly intelligent, then they would have stopped us a lot sooner: TMP link So maybe it takes 200 years for the reports to get to them. If that's the case then … Surprise! I bet you guys were still expecting muskets, weren't ya? :) Dan |

Bunkermeister, cause muskets was not written in the script. Looks like a fun movie. |

Several SF stories followed that route. Earth gets survey'd every 1,000 years or so, reports go back saying, place is quiet, no worries, leave it on the schedule. Then, when the invasion fleet gets here expecting opposition armed only with spear/bow and lance they face off against the entire military industrial complex. |

(1) The jump from swords to nuclear weapons is pretty much an eyeblink. So it could indeed be that they watched a few hundred years of nothing much happening, returned home, reported, put together an invasion fleet, and showed up a few hundred years later to face something quite different. (2) It could be that they didn't even look here until our radio signals alerted them to our presence. By the time they arrived, we had moved from Ozzy & Harriet to reality tv. |

Oberlindes: "By the time they arrived, we had moved from Ozzy & Harriet to reality tv." Our "historical records" have taken a definite dive. Dan YouTube link |

This plot device was used in Turtledove's Lizards v. Axis& Allies books. The aliens did not have faster than light drive so they visited in middle ages and it took till the 40's to return. Aliens had a very non-progressive society which hewed to traditional values so had no concept the speed at which humans could develop. TomT |
