We had an interesting juxtaposition of Napoleonic games at Nashcon this year. One of the vendors was showcasing their new ruleset with a massive 10mm battle while I was running a 28mm battle using the grand tactical take of a much simplified system that uses DBA as it's source. Some pictures of the 28mm game and a brief description are on my blog:

My table neighbor just posted as well about their Napoleonic game not two minutes ago!

Interesting action. Love the smaller unit footprint, in your example like DBA, compared to the massive miniature blocks of 28mm for BP. Both systems I like, have their tabletop uses, but the small miniature unit set up or footprint on the tabletop, still using and enjoying 25/28mm vs. 15mm or smaller, allows for greater flexible scenario design for historical battles with one to one unit OOB and not the feel with a BP unit representing brigades for larger (Corps level) historical battles.

Indeed! The simplicity of it is what appeals, but it does retain the key interactions of troop types that makes for a very interesting, yet fast paced game.

I too enjoy the larger unit look and so am working on an Old School project which reminds me of my younger days in the hobby. There is definitely a place for both!

I like the look of your 28mm DBN game

Thanks True Grit. The relative openness of the game due to the abstracted brigade formations, allows for an interesting game where maneuver and timing is key.

Combat with strategy all at the same time, for me the perfect game.
