….Hypersonic Missiles

"A new class of nuclear-powered submarines armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles is expected to be built by 2027.

Russia is allegedly working on a new class of nuclear-powered fifth-generation submarines with the first boat expected to be delivered to the Russian Navy by 2027, a source in the Russian defense industry said on May 31.

The new class of submarines, designated Husky, will likely be armed with a 3M22 Zircon (NATO reporting name: SS-N-33) anti-ship hypersonic cruise missiles purportedly capable of traveling up to speeds of Mach 6 at an estimated maximum range of 270 nautical miles (500 kilometers)…."

Yeah, but it will just end up catching fire and/or sinking.

If they can afford it. Their economy can't keep up with even a fraction of Putin's wish list. Just more vaporware…. (to scare western governments into spending more with the defense contractors, I'll guess…).

Might convince the US to get off it's butt and deploy supersonic to hypersonic antiship missiles, plus a replacement for SUBROC. And supercavitating torpedoes.

Lion- Good point. The USN has been dragging its feet far too long on upgrading its ASM capacity.

Well, to be honest I'm expecting the USN to really go to town on the Tactical Tomahawks for the antiship missile.

Upgraded bunker-buster+blast frag warhead, antiradar seeker, millimeter wave radar seeker, a ramjet instead of the turbojet for Mach 3 speeds, and using any unburned fuel for a Fuel-Air explosion. And that's on top of the Digital Scene Matching and GPS guidance with a datalink back.

One missile to rule them all.
