Do you use 'heroes' in your historical miniature wargames?

Yes.

Since the timbre of a QILS game is more in the scenario development and design than in the "rules", which are a bare template, you can design your units to accommodate that one dude who … well … it's just his day, today.

Both designated and created heroes. Designated = identified and statted out to be heroic prior to the start of the game. Maybe a 4X or even 10X regular dude level. Created are when a pseudo-random event can reverse the killing of a regular Joe and turn them (possibly temporarily) into an uber-dude.

Typically, the designated hero would be a senior leader in the force whereas a created hero would be a junior nco or rifleman who gets "elevated".

In my Vietnam games using FNG:2nd Tour, I do not use the rules they have for what are called Stars (heroes by another name), but I do give extra powers to any Medal of Honor recipients when I am playing a scenario they were in.

Occasionally I do it for non MoH recipients like Bo Gritz.

Yes.

I play scenarios so if the "hero" was there I would. Can't recall ever having any named personality in a scenario I've played however.
