I recently bought a copy of BLB3 with a view to using it for the Great Northern War. I didnt let all the narrative being about Ireland put me off as I know its designed for GNW as well. We had a playtest on Thursday which generally went really well. The mechanisms are great overall, significant concerns though about the movement, that aside happy to try them a few more times. Write up and pictures on the blog. gapagnw.blogspot.com

I've played all three versions of the sets, and yes, movement is a bit slow. I really enjoy the upgrade of the troops in this version, v2 was not abd at all. But the one thing I'm not a fan of is the simultaneous movement. I would have like a IGUO type method…or something close it as the other play way seems too gamey. I read recently on their blog a GNW supplement should be coming out by end of the year. I've been waiting for that for a long time. I have a lot of GNW stuff. Oh in version 1 and 2, there are some minor rule changes for GNW too. P. |

Movement for GNW is different but it was in 2nd edition also. You haven't been specific about your concerns so I cannot comment on them. |

Thanks Barry, Clarence did give me some pointers about using march columns, The specific concern was that four inches moves per turn meant that on a 4 foot table we were unable to get to grips in a one night game. Its only our first game and we spent a lot of time walking through stuff so its still to be seen if we think this is a major concern. Essentially covering 4 feet at 4 inches per go with part of the ground hilly reducing to 2 inches per left us concerned that we could not squeeze a game into a 2 -3 hour session unless we started much closer together. Lets see what the next game brings. |
