I'm sending about 30 ships away to be painted. In a dilemma regarding how to pack them without getting any damage. I know it might seem a bit of an inane query but I thought I'd ask. |

I use thin bubble wrap – rolled around each ship and taped off. Tedious, but I have never had any damage doing it this way. |

Forgot to mention: if there are masts, etc., I place a small piece of packing peanut / foam on or through that area and instead of rolling, form the bubble wrap around the ship in a triangle shape and tape it. |

Another idea: Cut slits in a 1/2" thick piece of foam, and push each ship down into a slit. I store all my painted 1/2400 ships this way, upside down, with the superstructure and all embedded in the foam. I have to be extremely careful pushing in the GHQ ships with lead masts, but all my other ships with steel/brass masts do just fine. I use the box lid or another piece of foam pressed against the waterline to press them down into the foam, so they can't shift or knock together. (This also clearly displays the ship names written on the bottom, which is how I label mine, but YMMV.) I would not recommend this technique for masts with yards. None of my masts have yards, they are just bare vertical poles, sometimes with a crow's nest. - Ix |
