My friend who is not a miniature gamer is thinking of switching to miniatures wooden ships for his Wooden Ships & Iron Man Gaming

Does anyone have easy resources that explain how classic 1750-1815 ships sail and handle in wind conditions?

WS&IM uses a simplified hex system for ship sailing characteristics and I think he wants more realistic details.

Much thanks!
