… Sailing Down a River in Brazil.

"There is something beautiful about old ships and the sheer mechanical ingenuity to keep them working. In the U.S. Navy, the average ship lifespan is currently 18.2 years, with 36 years being the generally accepted maximum service life, although some ships will sail longer. Globally, the average commercial ship is 11 years old. The oldest active U.S. Navy warship, the command ship USS Blue Ridge, was commissioned in 1970.

Brazil commissioned the 720-ton, 180-foot-long Parnaiba into service in 1938….."

Thanks for the link and I think the vessel itself is cool.

Pretty impressive to see a ship that old still in active service!

The USS Blue Ridge is still in active service!

I was XO of troops on her back in 1988.

Last time I was on Blue Ridge, we had some South Korean visitors – Junior naval officers.

One of their questions/comments at the end of the tour was 'why does the admiral ride in the ship with no guns?'

I found it kind of humorous.
