Anyone know the backstory on these figures?

US Horsemen in Normandy? Looks like one is a paratrooper -- I could easily see some sky-maven nicking a horse out of a paddock. But the other, armed only with a Colt .45 and in gators and OD class B wool trousers looks like a 1942 cavalryman.

Kinda curious…

Except the guy with the pistol has a 29th division patch on his shoulder. I'm guessing they are meant to be D-Day troops who have 'acquired' horses in the course of their duties.

There was a paddock with horses ment for the German artillery behind St Laurent. No doubt they would have been acquired by US forces and I would believe similar elsewhere in Normandy.

I don't think they were the handsome ridding beasts in the models though.

If you do a little searching, you can find that the US did use a few horses. There is a picture of a recon unit riding them in Italy.

If I remember right, in Band of Brothers there was a scene where a rider came in to give orders to Winters.

Here is a picture…

To those who doubt it, nice little video:

And one has this shot

There are others. So unusual but not rare.

Edited. Just took a closer look at the youtube video and at the end you can make out a 9th Air Force patch on one of the riders!
