My Home Guard unit is going up in the world having acquired a WWI era Rolls Royce a/c to thwart the evil Nazi invasion plans.

I woukd welcome some suggestions for a suitable paint scheme using Vallejo paints: would there have been an element of camouflage applied to it?

I don't know about the Rolls Royce type except to suggest that as HG equipment was often obtained from museum pieces they might be in whatever scheme a museum thought fit.

I do know that the HG eventually acquired Beaverettes. Those used for airfield defence were apparently painted in RAF DG/DE.

While it is possible some may have had a camouflage pattern my guess is most would have been in a single color. The most likely culprits being SCC 1A (British Brown), SCC 2 (Service Drab) or Khaki Green No 3. I would probably vote for the last one.

As for inspiration look at some patterns here, most from WW I

Some one else may have a good idea of Vallejo colors. Mike Starmer has a good tutorial on colors and paint, to include mixes (using humbrol and revell I am afraid) here

However not all is lost. Ammo Mig makes these colors in acrylic in dropper bottles like Vallejo. They are sold in separate bottles but a better buy is the 4 paint Smart set which includes the 3 I mentioned as well as SCC 15 (British Olive Drab). I got my set off Ebay for $15 USD and free shipping. You may have to shop around but here is one set currently offered for a bit more
auction

Hope this helps.

Jim D. beautiful paint job. From you site, it seems you did all black, then added green. What shade of green is that, it seems speckled brown? The darker color looks brown too?

JimDuncanUK29 May 2018 12:21 p.m. PST

@Bobgnar

GW Chaos Black all over.

GW Warboss Green (mid green) heavily dry brushed all over.

GW Elysian Green (a bit lighter green) lightly dry brushed all over leaving shadows on the panel lines.

Heavy wash all over with Army Painter acrylic Soft Tone (brownish ink).

Redo the camouflage bands and tyres with Chaos Black then dry brush with GW Mechanicus Standard Grey (dark grey).

GW Leadbelcher (gunmetal) on the springs.

A subtle wash catching any panel lines with black ink.

Light Grey/White on the headlights.

Finish with Winsor & Newton Artists Acrylic Matt Varnish.

Base to suit.

Jim, Thanks much, I needed that. I forgot to mention that I have a Home Guard contingent, but no motorized component. This thread gives me good ideas to add an Armored Car and how to paint it.
