I've been searching for components to build a Mangler Squig unit from Warhammer/Age of Sigmar. This same unit is also used by the Orcs & Goblins army in The 9th Age fantasy battle game where it is known as the "Gnasher Wrecking Team."

Many 9th Age players use GW's 8th Edition Finecast Mangler Squig unit, which is actually still available on GW's site. It retails for about $60.00 USD, but on Ebay and Amazon it is quite a bit more expensive on the secondary market, as much as $75.00 USD or $100.00 USD.

Quite by chance I stumbled upon an Ebay vendor who makes their own resin-cast models. They happen to produce a pair of giant squigs that are PERFECT for this unit!

They are still currently producing these but for how long I don't know. At $25.00 USD for the pair it was too good of a price to pass up. I was not disappointed in the detail, they are amazing! And every bit as huge as GW's mangler squigs. The scale is perfect.

Here's a link to their current Ebay listing:

And here's what they look like size-wise compared to a 28mm GW night goblin model:

I'm going to use the pair of squigs in combination with a set of GW plastic night goblin fanatics. The plan is to simply remove the giant balls from the fanatics' chains and then attach the chains directly to the squigs' bodies. I also purchased some generic chain from Walmart that pretty closely matches the size of the fanatics' chains, which I'll wrap around the squigs' bodies to blend with the fanatics' chains.

Here's all the unpainted components with a closeup shot of the detail of the squigs' faces:

All told this unit cost me about $40.00 USD for all the components plus the chain which was just a few dollars. A good deal less expensive than the GW Finecast model, and I think that these squigs actually look cooler than GW's do.

Whoa, fantastic.

In fact the one on the right could pass for the Id Monster in Forbidden Planet, for use with either 15mm.

I've been eyeing those on eBay for a while. Best squigs ever.

Cheers
