….Hitler and Pavelic. "The spiral of their crimes was one-dimensional – it equally referred to the elderly, women and children and adult men … In the beginning of March 1943, at the initiative of the German Nazis and with the cooperation of Ante Pavelic, leader of Nazi Independent State of Croatia, the "SS Handschar Division" was formed. It was composed largely of Bosnian Muslim youth from today's Bosnia i Hercegovina and Raska area (central Serbia) , who committed unimaginable crimes against the Serbian population and partisans, whose majority of members were again, the Serbs. At the time when it was established, this Division numbered 21,064 soldiers, Bosnian Muslim men…." Main page link Amicalement Armand

It fails to mention one of the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood worked with Hitler to create the Hanschar SS. Amin all Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, helped propagandize and recruit for the Nazis. link |

It doesn't fail to mention that, but it is very "one-sided." Not the sort of thing I'd rely on as history. |

Agree. Not doubt that Handschar were a bad lot, but the site seems focussed on portraying the Serbs as victims. Tito's partisans were no Boy Scouts either. The war in Yugoslavia was bitter and bloody. |

Having served 6 months with the UN in that area in 94 can tell you the hatreds are still very much alive. This is an area of the world where the 1389 Battle of Kosvo (called the Field of Blackbirds, Field of Crows, or Plain of the Blackbirds depending on your translation) is still discussed as if it were a relatively recent event! |

And AFAIK we still, the US and other NATO/UN members, have troops on the ground in the region. And it looks like they are there to stay. Traditional hatreds that go back many, many, decades. At least 3 or 4 or more different ethnicities, 3 religions, languages, alphabets, etc., etc., what could possibly go wrong ? It took a "strong man" like Tito to keep this mess under some sort of "positive" control. Another "disaster" born in the destruction on the Austro-Hungarian Empire after WWI. Just like in the Mid East. With the dividing up the Ottoman-Turk Empire. E.g. Iraq … and it looks like we'll have troops there too for some time to come … mostly US, it appears … again … More poor decisions made my short-sighted, biased, now long dead European politicians, etc., … |
