Any suggestions on simple rules for Cold War games at a "reinforced company" level? Ie, the size game that Team Yankee covers.

Team Yankee is okay, but I really prefer rules that aren't IGOUGO.

I know Team Yankee itself is pretty simple compared to the old-school rivet-counters! But I'm hoping for something even simpler if that exists.

Thanks!

These are simpler but still IGOUGO. PDF link

These are more detailed but feature same time movement. I use to play these back in the mid-80's, it's called "Threat". link

yes, another vote for Fivecore Company Commander.

They let you focus on the flow of the battlefield dynamics without the pedantry of engineering stats. Their relative combat strength model works pretty well.

Very fresh system that deserves an open mind and humility.

To add on top of this, it is not the combat system that wins the battlefield but the training and professionalism.

3rd for Five Corps.

I'm trying out an alternate turn sequence for Team Yankee:

Turn Sequence

Phasing Player Formation Morale

Phasing Player Artillery/Air Strikes

Phasing Player moves

Movement orders as per rules

Non-Phasing Player Direct Fire

Shoot and Scoot for Non-Phasing Player

Phasing Player Direct Fire

Shoot and Scoot for Phasing Player

Assault Phase

Sabre Squadron.

But both CWC and 5CCC are IGUGo. But i like them both.

Daithi the black – hordes of the things is interesting choice! What unit types do you use for which Cold War units?

I would recommend Rapid Fire! 'Able Archer 83-84' Cold War Rules Adaptation or Cold War Commander Rules. Hope it helps.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Take care

A conversion of Dirtside would work, as would Saber Squadron.

But I really don't think that 'alternating activation' and 'simpler than Team Yankee' are really going to be in the same game.

The 5 Core system also gives you some activation system options. It is still an alternating system but not all results are predictable.

I am also toying with using the Rapid Fire Able Archer battlegroups and using the 5 Core rules.
