Reviews are less bad than I expected. Even from fans. Humm. Maybe it has some merits.

McWong7326 May 2018 3:36 p.m. PST

Having seen it, I think the article linked in the OP is misleading. It's an average film about a scoundrel in the making.

Pleasant enough, has an ending that ties it in to the animated shows more than the movies, which was a surprise.

Weird, I can only see half this thread due to stifling whinging, man-child complainers and generally all around no funners.

Saw Solo twice. Might see it again in the theatre. I really enjoyed it. Han is my favorite character and I liked seeing a bit into his past. Wish it had been 2 movies. #1 on Corellia, at the Imperial Academy and his escape. #2 Meeting Lando and Cheewie. Getting into crime. Acquiring the Falcon, becoming Han.

I thought it was well done, enjoyable, and definately worth watching. But no one asks me.

I saw it, liked it, and glad that I chose to ignore the critics and the OPs estimations. It's worth seeing and judging it for yourself.

As with the above posts: watched it and enjoyed it. Fantastic battle scene and lots of fun action.

As a 50 yo white dude I do not share the fear, anger, misogyny and hate of this post disguised as discontent with a movie and/or studio. As one comedian once said, old white people still have all the land, wealth and power; it's just not as fun anymore. Your privilege is not threatened by Han Solo films.

MiniatureReview28 May 2018 12:15 p.m. PST

Got to say I really enjoyed the movie. I thought the actor playing Han did a fantastic job.

I really didn't see anything wrong with his character. He was young and inexperienced.

Overall a big thumbs up. Way better than the last Star Wars movie.

Just saw it today, an OK movie. I have to wonder about the mental state of anyone claiming it is for SJWs.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa29 May 2018 1:48 a.m. PST

Well we're off to see it assuming we can Shang-hi a baby sitter. You have to wonder about people who complain about liberal progressive agenda in their favourite franchise, which apparently started out with a liberal and progressive agenda…

It's a simple story well told, nothing more and nothing less.

If anything, the professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes were more lukewarm towards 'Solo' because it seemed conventional and familiar. At 70 percent it has the lowest score of the Disney SW movies.

>As a 50 yo white dude (with) all the land, wealth and power

Many white men are simply not as insulated from the hatred of the progressive left by their wealth and status as you are.

Either way, good job chaps. Soylo bombed and bombed hard.

We still aren't getting Star Wars back. The progressives in charge of Star Wars would *far* rather it die than make something that might bring comfort to the hated white devils.

But hey. At least we don't have to subject ourselves to it.

(Leftee)30 May 2018 3:07 p.m. PST

Interesting paraphrasing. But very wrong.

Pizzagrenadier30 May 2018 3:46 p.m. PST

It's got to be exhausting getting that worked up over something with stakes that are so low.

You poor poor thing. You'd think western civilization itself was coming to an end (or has it already now that they cancelled Roseanne?). But to think everyone else are snowflakes…

Kennedy aside I may go see Solo as it sounds like it just a movie having fun from what I've been reading. I suppose there is a SJW robot/droid that is a bit annoying, but that's pretty minor stuff compared to what was unloaded on TLJ.

Rather then tear down the Skywalker trilogy in the new episodes and tell the story of each character in side films I would like a different direction. I really enjoyed playing Knights of the Old Republic and the struggles between the Jedi and Sith and would like to see some original films made in this period with a whole cast of new characters unrelated to the current SW.

Is Rose Tico in this one?

Frankly I'd watch it even if they based the script on someone playing through the game…. If they were smart they'd build it out in the same manor Marvel studios have done with their recent slew of films with some big over arching story line.

billthecat01 Jun 2018 4:58 p.m. PST

Absolute rubbish, as expected.

redcoat02 Jun 2018 5:25 a.m. PST

I absolutely hated TLJ on multiple counts, not least the uncomfortable feeling that I was being lectured for 2.5 hours rather than being entertained. The fact that much of the film had a cheap and nasty 'Star Wars: the TV Series' vibe also grated.

I liked 'Solo', however – albeit not as much as 'Rogue One'. The opening felt clunky, and I had some real reservations about the weird fembot-pansexual Lando storyline. I was also surprised that Han so easily ended up doing the 'right thing' (I had imagined that to be the big character leap that he makes in ANH). But I'd go again, if I could spare the time.

It's an unfortunate irony if the film's underperformance at the box office is largely a consequence of the forty-something male fanbase's dislike of TLJ, because I'd have thought that the film is far more respectful of the original trilogy than TLJ.

My review of the movie is up: link

If you want to boycott it in hopes of pressuring Disney to fire Kathleen Kennedy or punish them for TLJ, be my guest.

And I seriously doubt that Abrams is going to dial back the gender diversity clock in Ep. IX because a few males were neutered in TLJ. JJ is renowned for strong/independent female characters such as in 'Alias' and 'Felicity.' I'm sure he had a hand in Rey's (dubbed as "Daisy Sue" by some SIW's) creation too.

Dezmond02 Jun 2018 11:58 p.m. PST

Social Justice Warriors always double down.

Whatever the question is, the answer is always More Feminism, More Diversity and More ethnic cleansing of White Males.

As I say, we are not getting Star Wars back. Once the far left takes control of something they would far rather it die than loosen their grip.

But at least it is not (yet) mandatory to pay to go to the cinema and sit still for two hours to be told off for being a cis het white dude.
