Chaps, sadly I think that's unlikely .. first and foremost because the old venue in Derby is now a permanent Car Auction site and i sno longer an events venue : see link
I also sent the following email to Ian last week:
Hi Ian
Just wanted to update you on the latest with "Derby" – which is unfortunately not entirely positive I'm afraid.
As you'll know I (on behalf of the BHGS) had volunteered to corral almost all of the tournaments and umpires in the run up to the event, with the logistics and everything else being done by the Derby organisers. I wasn't part of the "organising team" as such, but had simply offered the BHGS's help to a team of people who were unfamiliar with tournaments and the requirements of tournament players.
As of today the situation is as follows:
· The main "Derby" guy hasn't responded to any of my emails since February. Last year by now we'd been in regular communication for several months, we'd met at Salute! and as a result I was able to have had the announcement out to all of you umpires by now.
· None of the traders I've spoken to at various events over the last few months have been sent booking information – again, apparently this was sent out by March last year (based on what I've been told)
· As a result of this I (and I believe various other people also) called the venue at Bruntingthorpe. The venue has told me directly that the booking for the "Derby Worlds" event was cancelled earlier this year, and they have no booking for it at all.
So, possibly the Derby people have a new venue, and are even now making plans they have yet to communicate to anyone at all – however factoring in the well-publicised troubles that the organisers had with the traders last year – many of whom have very vocally been saying that they won't go back, and saying so to anyone who will listen – and it's unfortunately rather hard to draw any sensible conclusion other than that the "Derby Worlds" event appears unlikely to go ahead this year.
It's important to stress that this isn't an "official" announcement of any sort on behalf of Derby Worlds – as I said at the beginning, neither I nor the BHGS are anything to do with the organisation or management of the Derby Worlds show, we just helped last year in translating the requirements of you, the tournament organisers, and passed them onto the actual people running the event.
However, as I'd been in touch with you about the tournament side last I just wanted to let you know the current situation, and explain why you've not heard from me this time around so you can advise your players and plan accordingly.
