We all have our favorite historical figures, but as with meeting celebrities some of them turn out very different of what you might expect or are straight jerks.

Which historical figure do you think would disappoint if you met them (barring any language and cultural problems)

David Beckham.

Since few bathed back then, all would smell pretty bad.
Particularly when they wore those heavy clothes, vests, broadcloth coats, etc.

I bet all of the Founding Fathers, aside from smelling pretty rank, would all be identical in principal to the usual batch of current politicians, and with less restraint.

If I have to pick just one, Ben Franklin would probably not live up to the hype.
Some would say Jefferson, but I never liked him anyway.

Ptolemy. No matter how brilliant an analyst he was, my guess is he was just a nerd. Probably real pleased with himself, too…

Years ago Hinchcliffe did a Stonewall Jackson figure in 25 mm that I did not think was a particularly good sculpt. I was very disappointed in it when it arrived in the post.

I generally go by the concept that anybody that died before 1960 would be assholes.
I like Davout for his almost perfect military qualities. But i doubt I'd like to hang with him even if i haven't found out anything particularly nazty about him.

Sherman was a brilliant strategist but also prosecuted genocide on native Americans and almost wiped out the buffalo.

Napoleon alway sounded like a dick.

I guess the only historical personal i do have a hero worship for is Darwin.
He was problebly one of the most progressive and forward thinking men of his age. But he was was still a Victorian…

Any of the philosophers, especially when drinking.

They say Wellington was a rather cold person, so he is my choice. Now Blucher was a drunken womanizer, I would have loved hanging out with him!

I think it would be hilarious for ANYBODY from before 1900 come visit me, just suddenly show up in the passenger seat of my car while traveling on the freeway at 80 miles an hour, and watch them freak.
