Latest issue of Miniature Wargames arrived today with a free plastic SF dog spurue "Worth £17.00 GBP". I don't want to sound ungrateful…but, is one plastic sprue, even that it makes up to 2 figures, really £17.00 GBP ? I have to cut off the bits, get some glue, and assemble it myself and it's still £8.50 GBP per figure? And not even a really big figure. My flabber was truly gasted. Am I just sadly out of touch with figure prices? |

What company would give away a "free gift" worth £17.00 GBP? I got one with my copy. I'll probably make them up and find a use for them, but there is no way that 1 plastic sprue and 2 plastic bases are worth £17.00 GBP (unless you were born yesterday …) link |

I was thinking they might be usable with my 6mm SF. Maybe as scenery. I suppose what I'm saying is that when I started (yes – back when you could go into town on the bus, go to the movies, have some drinks, get a fish supper then ride home again and still have change out of a shilling) I used to have to decide if I wanted to buy another 25mm metal figure, or get a Mars bar as I walked home. Should have always gone for the figure of course. But if I was starting now it'd be – 1 figure or 10 mars bars. And that doesn't feel right. What's that? Oh, ok: I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a fuddy-duddy and don't know what……. |

There are prices and MSRPs, then there are coff coff "The Price is Right" prices. It doesn't matter what we think it's worth. I bought a dozen GW space marines released exclusively in Japan last year for over $100 USD bucks.
Of course in your case they're giving away 17GBP figures for free with a wargame magazine that's worth even less so I seriously doubt the stated claim of how much they're worth. |

With a little digging £17.00 GBP does seem to be the retail price (in a box). Maybe it's worth it to the manufacturer as they have the Magazine Cover (all of it) and 10 pages of the magazine (article about the game, article about painting the dogs, 2 page scenario for the game). That's a reasonable trade-off, perhaps. |

Well it's Sci-fi so, as with Fantasy miniatures, it has the special "its not real so it must cost more" tax that always seem to apply to Sci-fi/Fantasy miniatures. |

I can go one better – I also got the magazine for free. I used to be a subscriber, but let it lapse over a year ago but I do buy the occasional copy if there is something that month which piques my interest. Anyway, when I got home last night I found a copy (with these figures) waiting for me. There was a covering letter to say I'd been sent it free to see what I was missing out on by not subscribing any more. The stupid thing is that I might well have bought this issue, so they've saved me £4.50 GBP. There is a chap at the club I go to who does play Wild West Exodus, so I can offload the figures onto him. |

I am a bit worried that Miniature Wargames and Tabletop Gaming will eventually merge….but that's another topic really. |

I think 'worth' has no great significance in law: one can claim something is 'worth' whatever one likes. When I think how many Pendraken 10mm Napoleonic infantry I could purchase for £17.00 GBP I begin to question the sanity of people who actually purchase such things… |

arthur1815@ works both ways I'd question the sanity of anyone who wanted to paint £17.00 GBP worth of 10mm Napoleonic infantry |

We were goodies bag stuffing for Little Wars Midwest and the manufacturer donated 700+ FOW WW2 tanks. The tanks were Stuarts, Tiger Is and German Mark IIIs. I suspect that these were relatively slow sellers and the manufacturer could write off the inventory as an advertising expense. Also, if only 1 in 10 got someone interested then like potato chips no one will stop with just one. I wonder at what cost the manufacturer of the figures wrote off the expense at? |

For the manufacturer I'm sure it was worth it – cover, 10 pages of articles and (I've now noticed) a full page advert. If they wanted to get their game some attention that's a big tick in the box! |

Prince Rupert, I don't paint them myself as painting (whatever the size) is no pleasure for me; I pay someone else to do so instead! |

Hey ! I got another one! Smaller! "Only" worth £5.50 GBP! The same price as Tabletop Gaming ! To which it was attached this month! |
