What is a good tawney color for a lion's body? I've tried mixing Reaper's Tanned Leather with yellow or gold, but I can't get that pretty golden color that characterizes a lion.

I took a picture of a lion I liked over to the Reaper site & used their Power Palette and was surprised by the color it suggested. I didn't want my lions to be too yellow, so it recommended Mouldy Skin as a base coat for the lion in the picture I used. So I used Mouldy Skin as the base & added layers of a mix of Mouldy Skin and Golden Blonde. I stopped just short of a highlight of pure Golden Blonde. Here's a picture, if you want more of a yellow tone, add more Golden Blonde.

May be my screen, but they look a bit green ( mouldy?). I use ochre as base for lion skins ( Early Roman army signifers etc)

If you really want to paint a realistic lion, don't forget to counter shade with a lighter color on the belly and snout. Also note that lions have no visible whites in their eyes.
