It was family history, and my desire to imagine my ancestors' lives (and battles), that brought me to wargaming. I've been wondering how common it is to be interested in both gaming and genealogy. [For the record, my closest known relative in the War of 1812 was Jesse Duncan Elliott, first cousin to my GGG-Grandfather.] |

It can be confusing. Militiamen who were living in Alabama frontier were recorded as being part of the Mississippi Militia Brigade. Fighters in the Alabama conflict, mainly from Tenn, Ga, NC Nd SC, were given land for their service. So it is easy to trace the land back to an ancestor. For those who wondered, a combined NC and SC force replaced the Georgia troops under Floyd. |

It can be confusing. Militiamen who were living in Alabama frontier were recorded as being part of the Mississippi Militia Brigade. That is because what we currently know as Mississippi and Alabama were the Mississippi Territory until Mississippi was admitted as a state in December, 1817. Alabama then became a territory until it was admitted as a state in December, 1819. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (where I worked for 22 years) has rosters of a number of Mississippi Territorial units from the War of 1812 time period.
