The plot sounds familiar because it reminds me of 'Courage Under Fire,' a movie starring Denzel, Meg Ryan and Lou Diamond Phillips: link

Then again, some might say that movie was similar to the famous "You can't handle the truth!" movie, 'A Few Good Men.'
