Please see here link for an AAR of the latest battle in my re-fight of the ECW, as a Royalist force under Sir Richard Vasey marches to destroy the Parliamentary army of the Lord of Groby…

Thanks very much Sean.

@Timbo W – they would have done, if they had only known…I wonder if he is a direct descendent?!?

Joking aside, I don't know anything about the real Sir Richard Vasey, so if anyone could point me to some info, that would be gratefully received!

Hi Whirlwind, I think its the 'generic' commander for the Royalists rather than a historical leader. By peculiar coincidence the game author was Charles Vasey. :-)

Well done Timbo! Lord Grey of Groby was, however, entirely historical, and it is his portrait that appears on the blog. As far as I recall his main claim to fame was not as a particularly brilliant general, but as having his name appear between Bradshaw, the President of the Court, and Oliver Cromwell, on the King's death warrant!

Yup Grey of Groby link son of the Earl of Stamford, who had a hill named after him for getting soundly beaten by Hopton.

Easily confused with Lord Grey of Wark, link 1st commander of the Eastern Association who got sacked for refusing to negotiate with the Scots and was replaced by Manchester.

Nicely done!
