Hi! Like I ask in the subject, where can I buy DBA 3.0 (I'm in the US, so AmazonUK doesn't help) or 2.2+ rules? Thanks!

Dervel Fezian02 May 2018 10:34 a.m. PST

On Military Matters stocks 3.0 in the US, It usually pops up on eBay from time to time. At Little Wars I saw a copy in the flea market in mint condition for $25. USD

So you might check e-bay too.

2.2 is out in e-book form, but I think for a hard copy you need to look for the newer history of DBA or an old copy in the flea markets and eBay.

2.2+ is a house set of rules for modifying the 2.2 which you would need to find as a download somewhere.

You can also find a version for new players on Amazon (US and UK).

This version has the full rules, an example game, advice on building armies, terrain, and camp. It has only partial army lists, but a greatly expanded background for those lists. I would recommend the electronic version as it is in color.

They also carry the hardcopy version of the version I mentioned above.

The folks who wrote the "Unofficial Guide" and DBA v2.2+ house rules have since gone on to develop their own Ancients rule set, entitled Triumph!: wgcwar.com

Foxtrot43702 May 2018 12:31 p.m. PST

Thanks for the responses so far.

What are the differences between DBA 3.0 and ue Laflin-Barker's Start Ancient Wargaming Using Dba 3.0?

I'll look into Triumph, but would also appreciate being pointed to where I can download the Unofficial Guide and 2.2+

Sue's book is supposed to have all the rules, but not all the armies. So it is sufficient to start playing.

Fanaticus was relocated to this site:
fanaticus.boards.net/forum

I think they moved a lot of the old info over to this site as well. You will want to go there to get more info on 3.0.

As mentioned above the guys that wrote the original Guide and the 2.2+ Modified rules moved on to Triumph. So the original website that supported all of that and the original forum (Fanaticus) site for previous versions of DBA are dead now.

This site has the 2.2+ stuff preserved:

If you are looking for Triumph info the forum is here:

You can buy it as a downloadable PDF at Wargame Vault for $15 USD

"Start Ancient Wargaming Using DBA 3.0"

Has the full rules…
An example game…
Suggestions on building an army
Sections on building terrain and camps
Chapters introducing various popular periods along with the army lists.

What it lacks…
Full complement of army lists…
The diagrams that show examples…

The pdf/epub version is recommended.

This book is an update of the original "Purple Primer" on ancient wargaming published 40? years ago by the Barkers.

I hope that helps.

Start Ancient Wargaming Using DBA 3.0

The only problem with this book is that you will have to get the 3.0 book anyway to get the full army lists

The book by Sue is worth getting, even if you have the full rules,

Of the links above (and what I've found with Google), I've found the WADBAG Unoffical Guide to 2.2+, but all of the links to the 2.2+ rules/amendments are dead.

Dervel Fezian04 May 2018 4:42 a.m. PST

Yup, all those old sites are dead most of us moved on to Triumph.

That guide is enough to play, it contains all the changes.

However, if you want the other stuff I can e-mail it to you. I still have copies of the files.

Dervel – I'd appreciate them. Do the forums have a way to directly pm members, or should I post my email here?

Dervel Fezian04 May 2018 7:30 a.m. PST

You can PM here, but only as a paying member…

Or you can PM me on the Triumph Forum?

Black Hat Miniatures has DBA 3.0. Go to blackhat.co.uk , select Shop / Product Categories , then click Rules .

I just ordered HOTT 2.1 from them; this will be my first DBA game and first order from Black Hat so I can't speak from experience yet.

Sorry - only verified members can post on the forums.
