"The 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment (1er REP) was the first of the three airborne regiments of the French Foreign Legion. It was established in Algeria in 1948 and participated in the First Indochina War and in the Algerian War. The 1er REP became the prestigious unit of the Legion. Its history prematurely ended in April 1961, because of its participation in the Generals' putsch of Algiers…"
