…Movie the Audience Controls With Smartphones

"You know how annoying it is when people take out their phones in the movie theater while you're just trying to enjoy seeing the Avengers fight Thanos or whatever? Well, Fox wants to make that a feature with a new film based on the Choose Your Own Adventure books. There is an app involved.

According to The Wrap, the new movie will work just like the classic book series. The plot will start at the same place every time, but at certain points, the audience will be prompted to make a decision by voting on an app called CtrlMovie. Much like the books, this decision will affect which part of the movie the audience sees next. Fox just showed an audience at CinemaCon how it will work, and the decision process is reportedly similar to that in video games by Telltale. Here's a YouTube version of TellTale's Minecraft game:…."

Just another way to become enslaved to your cell phone… :-p

It was annoying enough trying to watch a TV show with a "live" twitter feed scrolling across the bottom. This is just going to suck. My opinion, of course.

Yesterday before Avengers, they had these "commercials" where you could use your phone to play a VR game against the movie screen. So Annoying.

Wasn't there a mystery movie back in the '70's or '80's that did this?

This is going to suck. On the other hand, we legalized marijuana in California, so, like, whatever dude. It's gonna be hella funny. Is there like any popcorn left?

Clue had multiple endings, which were shown more or less randomly in different showings. No audience participation in choosing, though. Not technologically feasible at the time.

Clue – I think the audience was later asked to choose which was the 'real' ending. On the video release, all endings were included, but one was the 'real' one.
