"The European (potential) theatre of operations appears adequate for using a more mobile 105mm howitzer than a towed version. Hence a clever adaptation of the long-serving M119 howitzer, so much appreciated in the U.S. infantry brigades, on a light 4x4 vehicle…."

Is it bad that I look at that and see the guys who do lowrider cars with the hydraulics to jump up and down? |

Pretty slick. I like it. I just wouldn't want to be in one for the enemy pulls a fast one and catches these in the open. They are armored Humvees but I don't think these things would take 6" arty fire very well. Still though, these are very slick. Popular Mechanics did an article on this guy a while ago too. link Here's a promotion video with the thing, called Hawkeye, in action. YouTube link |

So, I'm thinking at least 3 vehicles in the team, one to transport the tube, one for the crew and one(+) for the ammo. The main disadvantage vs. a towed tube I see is that if the transport vehicle breaks down you are out of action until the mechanics arrive & fix it vs. just hook the towed tube to the next available vehicle for a towed tube. Do these guys ever read history books? Like, BEF in France 1940, hundreds of vehicles lost due to relatively minor mechanical failure (& lack of fuel in the right place) in high tempo operations? |

"Is it bad that I look at that and see the guys who do lowrider cars with the hydraulics to jump up and down?" Or Speed Racer in his Mach 5 jumping hither and yon. All the while Spritle and Chim-Chim are hiding in the trunk. |
