"Despite what it looks like in video games, war is not fun. War is hell, to coin a familiar term. War is full of uncertainty, fear, frustration, and sadness. World War II was no exception. Lasting six years, 1939-1945, it's not considered a lengthy war in the annals of history, but to the men and women in the thick of it, it seemed to last forever. World War II was full of soldiers, all ordinary people, performing extraordinary feats of bravery, luck, and skill. It is no wonder those who fought in that war are considered our "Greatest Generation."…"

I wish the writers of these click bait blurbs would do a little actual research and proofreading. Vlug was in the 126th Regiment of the 32nd ID, not in the "126th Division". There was no 126th Division in the US Army. (The 32nd ID was/is big around here…my hometown contributed a company to it when it was a National Guard unit. Most (all?) stayed with it when it was federalized.)

Quite agree! Also Havildar isn't a name, it's a rank – the Indian Army equivalent of Sergeant. Besides which, Lachiman Gurung was a Rifleman (Private) at the time of the action mentioned in the article. And for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. They don't even bother to mention that bit even though he's clearly wearing it in the accompanying photo.

No kidding… from one posted here the other day about China's new aircraft carrier…

A source close to the navy said it was far "too early to estimate" when the new ship would be combat-ready. It took nearly six years for the Liaoning to become a fully combat-ready battleship after it joined the navy in 2012

Even my Barbie-on-the-brain grandkids know enough not to call a carrier a battleship.
