The head of the U.S. military's Special Operations Command said Wednesday that Air Force gunships, needed to provide close air support for American commandos and U.S.-backed rebel fighters in Syria, were being "jammed" by "adversaries." link |

Don't overlook the most common source of jamming, some numb nuts with a hot mic. I was on joint live fire gunnery excercise with Cobras and A10s in NM, and the FAC who was controlling the whole thing had a hot mic from the time he handed off the target to the A10s until the CO of the attack helos landed next to his vehicle and literally pulled the plug on his radio. Adversaries indeed. |

If this latest Syria control map is to be believed, Assad is slowly regaining his country:
Pretty soon there won't be many anti-Assad rebels left to support anyway. |

I'm confused. We are supposed to be getting out of the regime change business of previous administrations. ISIS has gone underground, so our part there is done right? And if we aren't going to help the Kurds on their Bay of Pigs moment against Turkey, then why are we still there? Are we just sticking around waiting to get caught up again in more crossfire, or get stuck defending Turkey from the consequences of its own actions? Our presence there isn't going to make the warring factions any friendlier to each other*. All it does is paint a big target on us back home. And distracts them from each other. Dan * And if we pull out now, we might be able to sell weapons to all the factions, the same way Russia and China have done for years. Or is it only right when they get to do it? :) |
