Looking very nice! Did you do any filling on the seams of the horses, or just glue and paint?

Also wondering what technique you use to paint your bows. They look really realistic in my opinion.

Thanks Perris0707, the bows are painted with GW steel legion drab and then when dry washed over with nuln oil. Then first highlight is steel legion drab then I swap over to Vallejo Cork brown, i mainly highlight the edges by running the side of the brush across the edges of the bows. It's quick and easy to do, hope that helps.

They look great.

Hey bracken. Nice work as always. I have a question, maybe you would know the answer. Why do the foot figures have a recurved bow, and the mounted figures have a straight bow? When I did my mounted arabs, I used left over bow arms from the Fireforge mongols that I had done. The arms are almost identical except for the length of the sleeve. Also, great job on the shields, hand panted shields are always the best. TIG

Thanks guys sorry for the delay in replying

Mirosav thank you kindly, it's much appreciated

Thanks TIG, I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm pretty sure someone knows but I'm afraid it isn't me. The fireforge Mongols seem very similar in scale and size so they are perfect for mix and match. I always worry about shields it so easy to mess up a figure with a badly painted shield! I know I've it a few times.

So thanks again guys

Cheers for now Russ

Now I'm really confused. The small print that comes in the GB plastic sets have the mounted arabs with recurved bows????

bracken Supporting Member of TMP02 May 2018 10:30 a.m. PST

TIG they are from the light Arab cavalry, so it could be the heavy cavalry that has the curved bows. I will check and let you know. That is if the heavy cavalry comes with bows? I'm getting confused now! But it doesn't take much 😁 now a days

tigrifsgt02 May 2018 4:05 p.m. PST

I looked at the heavy cav sprues on line and they appear to be the same bows that the light cav have. I guess it's just time to let it go. I turned the light cav into mongol allied cav using lots of left over FF mongol parts. I was going to do the same with the heavy.(Not purchased yet.) I'll just check to see if I have enough recurve bows left to convert the heavy. If not I can always just make them arabs. TIG

Very nice brush work!

Leo Zanza06 May 2018 1:48 p.m. PST

Great job!

TIG, I can't work it out but like I said it doesn't take much to confuse me. Least with plastics any conversions are easy to undertake, and the fireforge and grippingbeast figures make excellent doner parts for each other.

Thanks oldbob, I've enjoyed painting these no end. Gripping beast are fantastic figures.

Leo Zana thank you also. I'm working on the next batch already.

Cheers guys for all the comments
Thanks again Russ

Thanks oldbob it's much appreciated, I've made an effort to improve the look of my bases. I'm guessing it's proving to be worth it.

Philotep18 May 2018 11:29 a.m. PST

Hi Russ, they are really great!!

Philotep18 May 2018 11:32 a.m. PST

Have you ever visited North Africa? Your bases are very accurate :)

Thanks Philotep, no I haven't but thanks for the compliment 👍

Littlearmies23 May 2018 1:31 a.m. PST

Well done – it looks like you've overcome many of the limitations of these two sets.

bracken Supporting Member of TMP23 May 2018 10:49 a.m. PST

Thanks Littlearmies, I love the fact you can mix and match plastic kits so easily. I enjoy converting figures and plastic figures make it even easier.
