It's not a word I use frequently in conversation but I found myself using it today. I was being obstinate with good reason. The other person was wrong, it was a math error so not debatable. It got me thinking, How obstinate am I really? I suppose there could be a range from 'never' to 'every chance I get'. How obstinate are you in wargaming? How obstinate in everyday life? Do you stubbornly refuse anything but the d6? Do you insist on "proper" wargaming? Can no one persuade you that opportunity fire is not essential for modern combat games? Please provide hilarious responses below. |

How dare you insinuate that I am obstinate…obstinate, I'll show you obstinate…slamming of door noises. |

I'll have to let others decide, my guess is "very" at this point. I do know I am getting moreso by the minute. |

Depends. I can be obstinate when I want to. I hate buses. Bloody things think they own the road, just pull out in front of you, and stuff like that. I once met a bus coming the other way down a narrow suburban road with cars parked down both sides. The only gap was on his side and was big enough for him to pull over. But he didn't. He went past the gap and we met bumper to bumper. He assumed I would reverse. Big mistake! So, after it became obvious neither of us was going to back up, I just got out of the car and walked away taking the keys with me. The look on the bus drivers' face was priceless! Thing is, I didn't care 'cos it wasn't my car… |

I *was* obstinate, but it takes a lot of energy, you know? It's just so much easier to go with the flow, man. If we can all just hang out and groove on the fun in gaming instead of, like, arguing over the rules, that'd be far out. |

I am Obdurate, Conscientious, Deliberate. I have standards which I do not Obfuscate, Compromise, Debate. I, in the face of others who are either ill-bred or have allowed themselves to degenerate to be ill-mannered, remain Orthodox, Constant, Doctrinaire. |

Wargaming? Not much. Wargame rules are formal systems, and thus are incomplete with respect to the performance space of a wargame. So, sometimes you gotta bend. I will be operationally and tactically obstinate if that is the role I am playing in the scenario. Real life? Assuming I have a "real life", extremely. My job is to keep people from getting killed when we field new technologies. I'm pretty inflexible about that. That doesn't mean that I can't accept that we will accept risk – life is an inherently risky undertaking. I am, however, very obstinate about the difference between deliberately accepting risk and ignoring it. |

Many years ago 2 separate sources gave me cards which said "I may have my faults, but being wrong isn't 1 of them". Seems they knew me pretty well back then. Now it depends if I can be bothered or not. The joys of growing older and hopefully wiser. |

When wargaming, almost never. I'm here to have fun, and I don't enjoy arguing. At work it depends. One of my favorite sayings, that my lieutenant has heard many times and hates is, "Right is right, wrong is wrong and if what the administration is doing is wrong I will fight it tooth and nail." |
