I am a prolific figure painter but I don't think even my friends would describe me as a "good" painter. Adequate, if they're feeling generous.
However, I've recruited a new member to our little group who has never wargamed (Kriegspiel at Sandhurst excepted) before. And he wants to paint.

Sensible chap has asked my advice on figure purchasing, undercoating, types of paint & brushes to use etc. Today, I even went over to see him with my swag of washes & demonstrated how to apply them.

I am a mentor!…..at least until he works out he could do better.

Poll topic:

Have you ever mentored anyone in figure painting?

1. Never. Highly unlikely anyone would ask if they saw my figures.

2. Occasionally. Glad to help a Newbie out.

3.Sometimes. Advice is free & I have experience from years of practice.

4.Constantly. I have a string of padawans who gladly sit at the feet of the master.

3. Have given and received advice. The hobby along with the model making fraternity are great sources of info and always ready to help out I've found.

I have been mentored.
Uncle Duke put in a fine snake oil salesman show back in the day when he introduced Heritage acrylic paints. I had been struggling along with the usual Pactra and Testors enamels. Heritage methods gave my results a huge quantum leap in quality.
Joe Miceli gave a good demo on terraining and flicking bases. That was af
