….Iran's involvement in Syria. "Satellite images released Tuesday by Israeli Defense Forces show the scope of the military relationship between Iran and Syria. The satellite images show several Syrian military bases that are used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards forces, which the IDF's said helps illustrate the threats imposed by the Iranian ability to send weapons to Syria from Tehran. The Guard's air force presence is located in five airports in Syria: T4, Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Damascus International Airport and an additional airfield south east of Damascus, according to the IDF…."

I seem to remember a catchy parody song from the 70s-80s, that sounded a lot like something from The Beach Boys. I think it might have actually been prophetic. Dan |

"T4" is the old British nomenclature for that airfield. It was co-located with a pumping station for an oil pipleine, which terminated, IIRC, in "T"el Aviv. Don't let anyone tell you historical wargaming is a waste of time! |

This is news to us how? Iran (with an assist from Russia) is the sole reason why Assad is still breathing and in power. The various Shia militias that played a pivotal role in defeating ISIS and the FSA are proxies of iran, much like Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon. So, quite on the contrary, I would be surprised if Iran didn't have a strong presence in Syria. |

Cacique Caribe, are you thinking of the "Merry Minuet" by the Kinston Trio? |

According to strategypage.com part of the price Assad paid over the last couple years for Iran's increasing assistance in staying in power is more Iranian involvement in Syria than he would have preferred. Iran had a military presence, there, but now they have a much greater presence, possibly enough to wage war against Israel, if not now then at some point. There is also, apparently, a pro-Iranian organization now within Syria not controlled by the Assad regime but by Iran. So this isn't a revelation, but it's newsworthy in specifics and demonstration of the extent of Iranian involvement. I supposed Israel is releasing these photos to get everyone prepared for Israeli preemptive strikes. Everyone will condemn Israel anyway, but you need to lay groundwork for political cover. |
