Attenhut! As someone pointed out in my earlier thread, the Soviet VDV varied in arms and equipment from their Red Army Motor Rifle brethren. Gone are PKM GPMG's and the ubiquitous RPG-7's. In their stead are lighter and more portable RPKS-74's and RPG-16D's. So use these cards instead. I kept the numbers of vehicles the same as a Motor Rifle Company at four, nine and 12. The transport attachment in my previous thread remains unchanged.

If you want to replace all the AT-3 Sagger missiles of the BMD's with AT-5 Spandrels, thus making them into BMD-1P's instead, I would increase the points per company incrementally starting at +1 point for the minimum-sized company.

So a 4-vehicle BMD company with AT-5's would now cost 6 points instead of 5, the 9-vehicle company costs 13 points instead of 11, and the 12-vehicle company 18 points rather than 15.

The battalion command vehicle would remain at 1 point, making the upgrade free.

I thought the BMD 1P was armed with AT4 Spigot, not Spandrel.

Original 9K111 Fagot missile-launcher complex used 9P135 launcher, compatible only with 9M111 missile, and later got the universal 9P135M launcher.

9K111-1 Konkurs complex uses 9P135M launcher compatible with 9M111, 9M111M, 9M111-2, 9M113 and 9M113M missiles.

Only change compared to 9P135 was a universal mounting bracket to mount thicker (140 vs 120mm) 9M113 missile tube.

I thought the BMD 1P was armed with AT4 Spigot, not Spandrel.

It can carry both types.

"BMD-1P – BMD-1 modernization with its 9S428 ATGM launcher replaced by pintle-mounted 9P135M-1 ATGM launcher capable of firing 9M113 "Konkurs" (AT-5 Spandrel), 9M113M "Konkurs-M" (AT-5B Spandrel B), 9M111 "Fagot" (AT-4 Spigot) and 9M111-2 "Fagot" (AT-4B Spigot B) ATGMs. Entered service in 1977."

It's also the missile that comes with the nice Armies Army model: link

And the AT-5 Spandrel has an AT value of 21 vs. the AT-3's 19, which makes it worth the upgrade and additional points cost. The AT-4's AT value is not much better than the AT-3's.

The RPK-74 in the normal Soviet TY infantry are rolled into the AK-74 stats. Why would they give a better rating for airborne?
Also the numbers for each "level" of company should be:
smallest (company HQ + 1 platoon): 5 BMD, 2 AK-74 teams, 3 AK-74+RPG-16 teams
medium (company HQ + 2 platoons): 9 BMD, 3 AK-74 teams, 6 AK-74+RPG-16 teams
large (company HQ + 3 platoons) : 13 BMD, 4 AK-74 teams, 9 AK-74+RPG-16 teams

The RPKS-74 fired the same 5.45mm round as the AKS-74 so doesn't have any substantial range or AT advantage. See link

I see. I'll correct the cards if there's sufficient demand.

falange01 Nov 2018 12:07 p.m. PST

Great work. Any updates on theses cards. The AGL and SA-16 Plts are not needed as they can be purchased by the companies as extra selections. Would they not come with their own BMD as well. (i.e. the platoon is broken up to support companies). A card for the mortars would be awesome. I would use one from FOW 4th ed Soviets in the meantime. The 120mm mtrs were carried in trucks, but one could declare them dismounted or walk them on if needed, so not truck model or cards required.

An addition to the formation of 0-1 company of ASU-85 asslt tanks would a welcome addition. A couple vendors make them and they would be welcome addition to that force. Eliminates the need for the wheeled AT Gun. Last addition would be 0-1 Mortar Battery.
Never understood why BF never added this essential unit to any Soviet battalion, especially the BTR type. Many NATO company have their M113 mortars but no Soviet one. And then why no dismounted option for the NATO. Easy enough house rule.

BF have made it clear they don't want "gun" teams in TY for reasons only known to them .

I really would like cards for the ASU85. Kinda stuck using minimally-upgraded T55s for counts-as, otherwise.

falange08 Dec 2018 8:18 a.m. PST

Absolutely love the basic card and bmd army option.
now for card corrections.

1. Number of bmd increments should be 4 – 7 – 10. There are no PKM squads and their transports so subtract 2 from 9 and 12.
2. Number of squads is then 4 – 7 – 10
3. Options should be for the SA-14 and AGS-17 in BTR-D
4. Delete or RPKS line on card front weapon choice
5. Add AGS-17 weapon choice

BTR-D is very much like the BMD only with just MG. I would use the card for the BMD for play
