As a miniature wargamer, how receptive are you to the idea of changing the way you game?

On a scale of 0 (low) to 10 (high).

khanscom14 Apr 2018 5:53 p.m. PST

Maybe a 2 if it requires rebasing existing armies.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP14 Apr 2018 5:59 p.m. PST

How do you mean "the way you game"?
Is it about large Historical battles vs Smaller Skirmish games finished in an hour
or
I only have Saturdays after 8 pm to game so won't game on Wednesday nights.

saltflats192914 Apr 2018 6:01 p.m. PST

I'm receptive to all change except pennies.

Stryderg14 Apr 2018 6:02 p.m. PST

7 or 8
Oh wait, I bet that assumes that I actually get to play every so often.

I'm always looking for ways to improve. By which I mean finding ways to make the games easier to play and allow the players to focus on decision making and not mechanics.

JimSelzer14 Apr 2018 8:14 p.m. PST

retirement makes it all relative (only my relatives can stop me from gaming)

attilathepun4714 Apr 2018 9:11 p.m. PST

Maybe a 3. I do not equate change with "better." In short, I must be persuaded that something is really an improvement before I'm willing to make any change. Here's a hint: I do not use cell phones.

I try to be receptive to new ideas. At to give them a try out.

sillypoint14 Apr 2018 9:43 p.m. PST

10…maybe 8-10.

I feel kind of stuck at the moment. But withe retirement about 14 months away I will have more opportunities for flexibility.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2018 1:42 a.m. PST

War (gaming) it never changes.

advocate15 Apr 2018 2:28 a.m. PST

I try different periods and rules. I stick with ones I like. I don't try ones I don't think might be interesting which shows I'm not that flexible. But if someone brings everything in and says 'Want a game?' I'll usually say yes.

Ed Mohrmann15 Apr 2018 3:10 a.m. PST

Change ? Prefer folding money, large denominations -

Oh – in gaming !

I'll try anything once.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2018 3:24 a.m. PST

Probably 2-3 now. I will not rebase again. I prefer simple rules & shorter games.

These days I'm unwilling to adopt new rules that involve rebasing, core rules that are more than 12 pages, learning a whole set of new acronyms, game terminology or definitions – and that's just for my favourite periods!
Happy to try other periods/types of game that someone else is putting on, but I'm not going to take up another historical period and buy forces or rules now.
Not sure how to quantify that numerically – maybe 3 or 4?

Striker15 Apr 2018 6:12 a.m. PST

Depends on the change. I'm always open to hearing it but if the change is "live on bread and water and only game at the stroke of midnight" then no, I'm not open to it. I'll listen to the idea though. For "normal" changes probably a 5. Not changing basing style, dumping or adding a new scale.

Vigilant15 Apr 2018 6:16 a.m. PST

I was sacked for not being open to change. I pointed out that change didn't mean improvement and that I was open to improvement but not change for the sake of it. Didn't help.

If I was around when fire was discovered … I would have voted "No" … old fart

Never let progress get in the way of, "We have always done things this way ! "

"Why Change Now !??"

1. Change is inevitable but bad. I fight in every way I can.

Forager16 Apr 2018 9:59 a.m. PST

I have found that when the size of your gaming group dwindles to 2 or 3 "regulars", your willingness to change can go up quite a bit! So, for me, an 8 or 9.
