That's an . . . Interesting place to have a second Maecheron. Though precedent exists as some pre-jaw fossils of bony fish ancestors have a jaw in what corresponds to the modern lineages rib-cages, modified from gill supports at the rear, rather than the main chordate line's forward sections. Mind you, it *also* has conventional jaws as well, so I suppose some form of doubling has occurred at the genetic level to achieve this result . . . . . . I may be overthinking. :) It's a great model concept, whatever else :) |
