As an ACW gamer, do you find your gaming primarily focuses on the Virginia/Eastern theater?

No.

14th NJ Vol10 Apr 2018 5:34 p.m. PST

No, mostly western theater.

jdginaz10 Apr 2018 5:40 p.m. PST

No we mix it up.

Dynaman878910 Apr 2018 5:42 p.m. PST

No, Pennsylvania mostly…

No, my ACW forces are organized for the Western Theater, specifically Thomas' XIV Corps of the Army of the Cumberland and Hardee's Corps of the Army of Tennessee (in 15mm).

Jim

Charlie 1210 Apr 2018 5:59 p.m. PST

Not so much. My gaggle fluctuates between East and West (with occasional forays into the Trans Mississippi).

Cacique Caribe10 Apr 2018 6:12 p.m. PST

Virginia? Which one? Is she cute?

Dan

Extrabio1947 Supporting Member of TMP10 Apr 2018 6:16 p.m. PST

Absolutely not. I'm completely Western Theater. I'm more fixated on Tennessee than Virginia.

Bill N10 Apr 2018 6:19 p.m. PST

Yes and no. I prefer to wargame the smaller battles that were fought in western Virginia and West Virginia.

mrwigglesworth10 Apr 2018 6:46 p.m. PST

I was going to say yes until I realized I miss read the topic…
🤣

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP10 Apr 2018 6:49 p.m. PST

No. Most of the ACW games I organize are fictional
battles…

Wackmole910 Apr 2018 6:53 p.m. PST

Nope, Western Theatre all the way.

Dave Gamer10 Apr 2018 7:18 p.m. PST

Like Ed my games are fictional battles but I take my regimental names and leaders from 1862-ish Eastern forces.

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP10 Apr 2018 8:46 p.m. PST

Mostly Southern and Western

Winston Smith10 Apr 2018 8:47 p.m. PST

I don't "do" ACW. I have friends who put on games.

But I find that the Virginia theatre is strangely same old same old. The action was in the West, while in Virginia the combatants just smacked each other up side the head, accomplishing little besides dead Americans.

rmaker10 Apr 2018 8:59 p.m. PST

No.

Grelber10 Apr 2018 10:04 p.m. PST

No. Perhaps because I'm a Westerner myself, I am more
interested in the Western Theatre--all the way out to Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Grelber

AussieAndy10 Apr 2018 10:09 p.m. PST

Much more interested in the Western Theatre. More interesting campaigns, battles and personalities.

martin goddard Sponsoring Member of TMP11 Apr 2018 1:41 a.m. PST

I spend about 2/3rds of games based in Eastern theatre. So yes.

Big Red Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2018 3:19 a.m. PST

Like Dave Gamer and martin goddard – mostly fictional and mostly Eastern theater.

Old Pete11 Apr 2018 3:46 a.m. PST

Reading, researching and painting definitely a yes. But oddly I actually wargame mostly the western theatre ?

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2018 4:31 a.m. PST

Yes, the Eastern Theater has always fascinated me and I've been studying / researching it for many years.

cloudcaptain11 Apr 2018 4:38 a.m. PST

+1 to Mr. Wigglesworth above.

Cleburne186311 Apr 2018 4:40 a.m. PST

Not in the slightest.

langobard11 Apr 2018 5:02 a.m. PST

No.

The Shiloh, Vicksburg campaigns have always been my favorites.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2018 5:27 a.m. PST

Mostly but we do a fair number of Western games (probably 70/30 East/West)

Perris070711 Apr 2018 5:57 a.m. PST

How could you NOT do the Army of Northern Virginia if you are an ACW buff? One of the best armies ever fielded. Imagine if they had the supplies available to the Army of the Potomac. It was the action in the east that resulted in the Emancipation Proclamation – which is certainly an important event. You could certainly argue that the war in the east tied down the bulk of the Confederacy's forces thus allowing the victorious Union campaigns in the west against much smaller Confederate forces. Don't "dis" the east.

ScottS11 Apr 2018 7:45 a.m. PST

I prefer the wackiness of the West.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2018 9:41 a.m. PST

Yes. Lee, Jackson and Stuart says it all. Cleburne and Forrest were equally great but a decent theatre/army CO was never present.

Trajanus11 Apr 2018 10:11 a.m. PST

I knew a Virginia in High School I was pretty focused on but that was a long, long, time ago!

Am I primarily interested in the Campaigns of the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia? Then Yes.

However, that's mostly because there aint enough days in the year to be properly interested in both the East and the West and I made a choice fifty four years ago that I've never completely altered.

Don't mean I'm not interested in the West but there's interested and then there's Interested!

For our local group, more interest and gaming has been in the West, although Gettysburg has always gotten an inordinate amount of attention. I've thought that too much focus has been placed on Virginia to the point where it seems that some don't know there was a war being fought elsewhere. Funny thing, when a recent rules set was released with the title "Pickett's Charge" I was put off by the title because it seemed to reflect a similar narrowness. (Nothing here about the rules about which I know nothing.)

I did wonder if that might happen, which is a shame as they are really good rules and not at all East/West specific!

Trajanus12 Apr 2018 7:37 a.m. PST

Actually it just occurred to if you were "fixated on Virginia" and an Easterner, you would have to ignore Antietam and Gettysburg!

Kinda silly I'd of thought!

donlowry12 Apr 2018 9:19 a.m. PST

I haven't actually gamed in the ACW in years, but in my reading and writing I cover both East and West, and find the West more interesting. For one thing, being pro-Union, it's nice to see the good guys winning most of the time. For another, there was a lot more maneuvering over large areas there. And, to me, campaigns are much more interesting than battles (in both history and gaming).

dsfrank13 Apr 2018 12:47 p.m. PST

I misread the thread title as 'Are you fixated on Vagina' – it took reading the first several posts to realize my mistake – now that I am no longer confused – I'm trying to decide if I am disappointed

- I am

Probably

Not at all. If I have a fixation it's on the western theater.

I'm totally over focusing on the East. Can't be helped. 😀

No, mostly west of the Appalachians and Florida.
