Help! Did the New Model Army artillery wear a standard red coat or were they dressed in civilian garb? Painting up a commission for a client and I am a bit stumped. Thanks all. |

Either. We don't know. I'd suggest the latter is more likely though. The only reference I've ever read to uniformed artillerymen relates to some of Waller's being dressed in blue coats but this reference may actually apply to a firelock train guard. |

They didn't have regular artillery until much later. Civilian garb is most likely. |

I might suggest the Master Gunner may have been in officer gear, the rest in civilian gear? |

No real "officer gear" – officers (of all arms) wore civilian gear but, if they could afford it, of better quality. |

I'm with herkybird on this. Never come across any reference to uniforms for gunners at this time. |
