Now Ged has been neglecting us lately. The Dark Side led him into an obscure conflict in Indochina, (no long before that one)…..French Colonial days….long before Dien Bien Phu too. But at last we get Gen Dorsenne in his rig as a Grenadier a Pied commander, all ready for Salute 2018. Just think how little work would be needed to make him into a trooper or officer of the Grenadiers a Cheval (Strong hint! Much bigger sales) But he does look rather splendid like this!

Very nice But I have a question. I see the saddle has been painted crimson like the saddlecloth. So is that how it was? Did the cloth go over the saddle, or did the saddle (which i assume to be leather) go on top of the saddle cloth? None of that is to take away from this figure. Which I like very much. But I just find myself wondering Thanks |

The cloth went over the saddle was my impression. Rousellot does show a red saddle exposed however, bottom right of the image. In most prints of officers they are concealing whatever they are sitting on alas

So there are two cloths. The main, larger cloth that sits on the horse, then the saddle fit on top of that, then a smaller cloth sits over the leather saddle itself. Interesting and complicated. But it will help me paint my saddles better now. Thanks |
